On hardwood, pet hair moves rather than embeds, so the side brush matters more than suction. Only two models here publish an anti-tangle side brush: the Roborock Qrevo CurvX (FlexiArm Arc) and the iRobot Roomba Max 715 Pet. A mop pass after the vacuum pass is what lifts the fine dander a dry pass leaves behind.
Pet hair on carpet and pet hair on wood are described as the same problem and sold the same machines, but they behave differently enough that the ranking changes. In carpet, hair is held in the pile until something agitates it free — a job for the roller and the fan. On a plank floor nothing holds it. It drifts into loose clumps, it lifts on the air the robot itself pushes, and it gets flicked outward by the spinning side brush before the intake ever arrives.
The side brush stops being a detail
On carpet the side brush is a minor contributor, sweeping the strip the main roller cannot reach. On hardwood it does a large share of the actual collecting, because there is no pile to hold debris in place while the machine lines up on it. That promotes a component most makers are quiet about into the single most important piece of hardware on the machine.
It is also the part that wraps worst. A three-armed spinner on an exposed hub, turning fast, with nothing between the arms and the bearing — a long coat winds it within days. Two of the makers here address it in print:

Where a maker says nothing we print nothing. We are not going to infer an anti-tangle side brush from the presence of an anti-tangle roller — several makers ship exactly that combination.
Why a stiff brush is worse here than on carpet
A bristle brush on carpet is defensible: the stiffness is what digs grit out of pile, and that is a real advantage. Take the same brush onto a wood floor with a drift of dog hair on it and the stiffness has nothing to work against. It strikes the clump and scatters it, and the robot moves on having spread the problem wider than it found it.
That is the reason the iRobot Roomba 105 Vac does not appear on this page despite being the cheapest mapping Roomba on sale. iRobot fits it a Multi-Surface bristle brush, and makes no anti-tangle claim for it. The pass that actually finishes the job
Dry vacuuming a wood floor in a shedding house gets the visible hair and leaves the rest: the fine undercoat and dander that settles into a film and shows up as a haze in low sun. It is too light to be reliably lifted by airflow across a smooth surface and too fine to be swept. A damp pad takes it off in one pass.
This is why four of the five picks here mop as well as vacuum, and why the dock ranking from the mop combo roundup carries over. It is also the one honest argument for a combo in a house that is mostly hard floor: not that the mop is a bonus, but that on this specific problem the mop is doing the half of the job the vacuum cannot.
Where the rug comes in
Almost every hard-floor house with a dog in it has one rug, and the dog sleeps on it. That rug is simultaneously where the hair is worst and the place a wet mop must not go. So the published mop-lift height, which is a footnote on a page about bare wood, moves back up the list here.

On carpet it is a strong buy and it earns its place in our pet hair roundup — 19,000 Pa and a published 40mm climb for the money is hard to argue with. On hardwood it drops down the list for one specific reason: Dreame states the DuoBrush is one hundred percent detangling without naming the mechanism, and says nothing at all about the side brush. On a wood floor the side brush does most of the sweeping and is the part hair winds around hardest, so silence about it is silence about the thing that matters here.
What to expect, honestly
A good machine running daily keeps a hardwood floor in a shedding house at a level that would otherwise take a broom every morning. It will not keep it at the level of a house with no animal in it, it will not get the hair off the sofa, and it will still need its brushes cleared — monthly on an anti-tangle design, and more often than that if the coat is long.
If what you actually want is the hair off everything rather than off the floors, the honest answer is a robot plus something handheld, and the ECOVACS T30S Combo is the one machine here that ships both in a single dock.
